Kaniz Fatema was born in Jamalpur and had her early education in Jamalpur (the then Mymensinghdistrict). She obtained B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. degrees from Dhaka University in 1976 and 1977. Then she also obtained Post Graduate Diploma on Development Studies and MPhil degree on Economic Planning from the University of Glasgow, UK under Commonwealth Scholarship.
After Masters Degree she joined the National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD) under Ministry of Planning as Research Officer and has promoted as Director Training until her retirement on 14 April 2012. Then she taught in East West University as Adjunct Faculty (both BBA and MBA Programs). She was also appointed as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics of Ranadha Prasad Saha University, Narayangong.
At present she is working as Professor in the Department of Economics of Notre Dame University, Bangladesh (NDUB).
She has attended several training courses at home and abroad, specially Project Management (Sweden), Sharing British Training Expertise (British Council London, U.K), Gender Management (RIPA, London, U.K), Felt and Financial Management (Sri-Lanka), Economic Transforming and Restructuring (Bangkok), Project Planning and Development Management (PPDM, Philippines), Total Quality Management (TQM, Locknow, India) Project Management(NAPD) Training of Trainers (TOT, BIM, Dhaka). She has been actively involved in the B.C.S. Viva Board of Public Service Commission(P.S.C) of Bangladesh.
Kaniz Fatema has authored in some research articles and other publications. She is a lifetime member of Bangladesh Economic Association, Total Quality Management (TQM) Association and Bangladesh Society for Training and Development (BSTD). She is also the General Secretary of the NAPD’s Alumni Association.
