1st Batch Orientation Program

"Catholic Church has started ever first University"

The Catholic Church in Bangladesh has established its first ever University in Dhaka. Last Sunday (7th December 2014) was held the first class of the newly established Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB). Holy Cross Fathers are responsible for this new university. Its motto is “the competence to see and the courage to act”. A total of 302 students have been admitted and 24 teachers are appointed in the university. Initially BBA, Economics, English and Law subjects have in the university. Later more subjects will start.

Last Thursday (4th December 2014) it officially started with an orientation program where around 350 people were present. Late Archbishop Paulinus Costa, DD, was present there as chief guest. He said to the students “This University will teach you truth and wisdom. You should learn it to be committed in your professional and personal life.”

In the opening ceremony of the university Vice Chancellor (Acting) of NDUB, Fr. Benjamin Costa, CSC, gave thanks to the government and those who helped to start it. He said, as members of Holy Cross, we are committed to impart value-based quality education, to inspire true patriotism and love for the people and the country in the students, according to Bengali long-cherished noble and glorious tradition and cultural heritage.

He informed that Notre Dame University Bangladesh received the official approbation of the Government of  Bangladesh on 29th April 2013. This news of great joy was especially welcomed by the members of the Congregation of Holy Cross all over the world, the Catholic Church in Bangladesh and the Alumni of Notre Dame College. He also said that though we faced many challenges, we finally overcame them.

We are deeply grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and His Excellency, Dr. A K Azad Chowdhury (State Minister & Chairman of the University Grants Commission), for this great favour. On behalf of the University and the Congregation of Holy Cross and on my own behalf I convey our deep gratitude to them. We envision Notre Dame University Bangladesh developing in the same line as Notre Dame College, Dhaka, which has served the people of Bangladesh in a unique way for a long 65 years” he added.
